Gartferry bounced back from a midweek loss to Eastfield Athletic, to over run FC Baillieston 6-0 in an all division 2A clash. Baillieston continue to be on the wrong end of results and will hope to right the course before the season starts in 2 weeks time. Gartferry take on Crownpoint United next and will hope to run out as dominant winners again by the end of next week’s fixtures.
Cumbernauld Colts Communities kicked off their preseason schedule with a 3-0 win over 3rd division Bellgrove to continue to resurrect their form they showed at the end of last season. Bellgrove, who were 3-0 victors’ last time out, will hope this was a minor blip in their preparations. Colts next challenge will be Kirkwood Thistle next weekend.
Partick Thistle continue to look dominant in recent weeks, following up on their 6-1 victory over Quayside with an 8-2 thumping of Westend United in a newly formed local rivalry for the west end. Westend will be hoping to turn the corner sooner rather than later as the beginning of the season draws ever closer.
Cranhill came off the back of a 14-0 demolition last Sunday they put in two impressive performances to resurrect their reputation. A 3-2 midweek win over Third division champions Queen’s Park Spiders was followed up by an 8-4 win against established rivals Redstar Thistle. The derby loss for Thistle will be a bitter pill to swallow.
Westercommon Star ground out a narrow 2-1 win over Southside Whitecart, continuing their impressive preseason form. Star are looking to be a good shout to challenge in 2B if they can carry this form into the league. Whitecart won’t be too disappointed with the result as they have given themselves a good showing which can be as important as results at this stage of preseason.
Castlemilk United took on fellow Premier league side Westhill, and showed that the new boys to the division will be no pushovers, coming out 4-1 winners. United will hope they can produce a similar result when they face off in a competitive game. Westhill will hope to kick start their results after a slow start to last season cost them a stronger finish.
FC Clydeside got their first win of preseason nabbing a 2-1 win over Glasgow Rovers. Rovers had been on a great run of form, making the win even more of a feat for the former Dominoid United. Clydeside will hope that with their new name comes better fortune after a disappointing season last year. Rovers will hoe that this was a minor blip in their preparations for their Division 2B campaign.
Kirkwood Thistle came back from last weeks 12-0 drubbing by Cumbernauld Colts to narrowly scrape past Quayside 3-2. Thistle will hope they have got their results back on track when they take on the other Cumbernauld Colts side next week. As for Quayside, another preseason loss isn’t ideal as they build for their division 2A run.
League Cup holders, Treble 2 once again showed their credentials against opposition from higher divisions as they kicked off preseason with a 5-2 win over Premier league MK Dynamo. Dynamo had been on a good run of form, seeing off Springhall last week but weren’t as fortunate this time around.
Eastfield Athletic rounded off a successful week with back-to-back wins. A midweek 4-2 win against fellow Cumbernauld side Gartferry on Wednesday was followed up by a 3-1 away victory against AC Volvomax who continue to stutter as they try to find their feet in the Sunday Central. Athletic will be looking to keep their roll going as the new season approaches.
Division 3 champions Queen’s Park Spiders were on both sides of a 3-2 result this week, starting with a loss to Cranhill on Wednesday and then managed to reverse the outcome against Overlee Partizans on Sunday. Partizans who have just signed up for the Third Division will be chuffed with their first ever result as they ran one of last years stand-out teams very close today. Spiders will be hoping to get up through the gears before kicking off their division 1 campaign in two weeks time.
Division 2B side Northend grabbed a very credible 3-3 draw with first division side Kirkhill as both sides kicked off their preseason friendlies. Both sides will be in difficult divisions next year and will hope this draw will be solid foundations for the upcoming weeks.
An all division 2A clash saw Lanarkshire Eagles hammer Third Lanark 5-1 in a revisit of two of division three’s strugglers last year. Both sides have showed glimpses over the last few weeks they have come on a long way from the 2012 season, but today it was the Eagles who were the more fortuitous of the two sides.
First division Wellshot were absolutely rampant as they saw off a Glasgow AFC Redstar 12-1, who will just want to forget about today. Wellshot will hope to be in amongst the title contenders at the end of this season (as they were last year) and if they perform as they did today, they may well be. Redstar narrowly lost to Glasgow Rovers last week but weren’t in the same league as Wellshot today.
Eastfield Star bounced back from a close loss to Premier side Manhattan Blacks last weekend to come out 3-2 winners against local rivals Clyde City. Star will hope they finish further up the table than last season, when they narrowly avoided the relegation zone, and based on recent results that may not be out of the question. City will hope to build from this as they go towards their first season.
